Toastmasters International was established almost 90 years ago in 1924 in USA. Since then, Toastmasters International has helped people of all backgrounds become more confident in front of an audience.
The Toastmasters programme has proven itself around the world. Globally, nearly three million people of all ages and occupations have participated in the club programmes. On average, the gross membership of Toastmasters International increases at a rate of approximately 250 people per day.
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.
The Toastmasters programme offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. As a result of participating in Toastmasters, the participants / club members:
- Increase self-confidence
- Become a better speaker
- Become a better leader
- Communicate more effectively.
